Sofía Ungar (Bariloche, 1987) is a filmmaker and cinematographer. She studied professional photography and graphic design at UBA (University of Buenos Aires). Currently, she is studying the Master in Contemporary Latin American Aesthetics (UNDAV, University of Avellaneda) and a Master in alternative film in EICTV. She was selected to be part of the “Artists Program” (2012) and the “Film program” (2017) at Torcuato Di Tella University, where she attended seminars of different professionals such as Joao Moreira Salles and James Benning.
In 2015, she was also selected to take part in the 8th Nuevas Miradas encounter at the 36th Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano of Havana.
As a filmmaker, her first feature film, "Shalom Bombon", was screened for the first time at the Bafici and it has also been screened at the International Festival for Jewish Cinema of Punta del Este and at Latin Arab Film Festival, among others.
Regarding her second feature film project "Hacia afuera blanco" (in postproduction), she was awarded an FNA grant, and a Proa Film grant. This year she also won a Fidba Wip award for sound post-production and a travel fund from the Oxenford Collection.
